Introduction to Phenyl Silicone Resin Intermediate


Phenyl silicone resin intermediate is a liquid silicone resin with methoxy as the active group; it can react with the hydroxyl group in organic resins to form organic-inorganic copolymers (such as modified polyester, modified acrylic, modified alkyd, modified epoxy, etc.), and can also be physically blended with organic resins.


Reactivity and Catalysts of Phenyl Silicone Resin Intermediate


Reactivity: Phenyl silicone resin intermediate can react with the C-OH of organic resins. If silicone-modified polyester is used, the hydroxyl content on the polyester needs to be increased because the silicone consumes part of the hydroxyl group. Without increasing the hydroxyl content of the polyester, the compatibility between silicone and polyester will deteriorate. Si-OH acts as an acid in the reaction rather than as an alcohol; the reaction temperature between the intermediate and the organic resin is 150-170°C; the mass fraction of silicone during modification is generally 15% to 30%. The amount of silicone resin intermediate used for silicone resin modification should not be less than 15%, otherwise, the characteristics of silicone cannot be exhibited.

Catalyst: The main catalysts for polycondensation between silanols are metal soaps (such as zinc octoate, zirconium octoate, etc.); for the co-condensation of Si-OH and C-OH, titanium ester (tetraisopropyl titanate) is used. If metal soaps are used, silanol self-polymerization may occur, which does not achieve the purpose of copolymerization; the catalyst amount is 0.1%-0.5% of the resin's solid mass; lead-based catalysts cannot be used, as even trace amounts of lead in the weld joints of the packaging can cause silicone resin gelation.


Applications of Phenyl Silicone Resin Intermediate


The phenyl silicone resin intermediate has good compatibility with organic resins and high reactivity. By modifying the organic resin with silane alkoxy, it improves the weather resistance and heat resistance of organic resins. It can be used in coil coatings, electrical products, industrial maintenance coatings, protective coatings, high-temperature applications, coil coatings, tableware coatings, non-stick pan coatings, etc.


Storage and Transportation Precautions for Phenyl Silicone Resin Intermediate


The phenyl silicone resin intermediate should be stored in a cool, ventilated warehouse below 35°C, avoiding contact with acids and bases, and away from fire sources and heat sources.


Firefighting equipment and fire exits should be available, and handling should be done with care. It should be stored and transported according to dangerous goods regulations.
